Anndee Hochman is a journalist, essayist, storyteller and teaching artist. For nine years, she wrote the weekly "Parent Trip" column for the Philadelphia Inquirer; her work has also appeared in WebMD, Poets & Writers, Broad Street Review, Purple Clover and numerous anthologies, including the recent Best Short Stories of Philadelphia. She's an eight-time Moth Story Slam winner and shared the first-place prize in the December 2022 Moth GrandSlam in Philadelphia. As a teaching artist, she guides children, teens and adults--including men in re-entry programs, women recovering from substance addictions and seniors in supportive housing--to find their voices in poetry, memoir, storytelling and creative non-fiction. She is at work on a young adult novel called My Plural Is People, the story of two Philly teens on a cross-country quest to learn the truth about both of their families.

Anndee Hochman has been selected to participate in the Cuttyhunk Island Writers' Residency, a one-week intensive running September 11th-18th, taught by young adult (YA) novelist Lauren Wolk. During the residency, Anndee plans to revise her YA novel, My Plural Is People, the saga of two teens who set out on a cross-country quest to learn the truth about their families. This novel touches upon themes of grief, love, friendship, gender, race, and alternative family-making. Anndee is writing this book for every kid who has wondered where they belong, if they belong, and whose family of origin holds secrets or fails to make sense. 

The WOO Grant will assist Anndee with tuition and accommodations, as well as transportation to Massachusetts.
